We are a 82-bed licensed residential care home in White Rock, and we are looking for a Food Service Manager
This is the senior dining position in the building. You own the menu, the kitchen team and food safety - and the daily experience of every resident who sits down to a meal. You will work closely with our registered dietitian and nursing team, and you will be the qualified food services manager named on our Fraser Health licence.
What you will do
- Plan the menu. Build and maintain a four-week menu cycle - three meals and two snacks a day - that meets Canada’s Food Guide, suits residents’ nutrition plans, and reflects their preferences, cultures and the seasons.
- Keep food safe. Own purchasing, storage, preparation and service. Maintain sanitation plans, temperature logs and corrective action records, and lead the kitchen through health inspections and outbreak protocols.
- Run the dining room. Hold the meal schedule, make sure residents get the time and assistance they need to eat safely and comfortably, and keep tray service limited to those whose care plans require it.
- Work with the care team. Partner with our dietitian on individual nutrition plans, therapeutic and texture-modified diets, supplements and monthly weight monitoring. Flag unintended weight change the same day.
- Lead the kitchen team. Supervise, schedule, hire and develop cooks and dietary aides. Make sure everyone is trained for the work they are assigned, and keep ongoing education current.
- Keep the records and the budget. Food purchases, menus and substitutions, monitoring results and staff training - current and ready for a licensing inspection. Manage food cost per resident day, inventory and vendors.
What you need
B.C.’s Residential Care Regulation requires our food services manager to hold one of three credentials. You must be:
- a member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM);
- eligible for CSNM membership - typically a graduate of a CSNM-accredited nutrition or food service management program (student membership does not count); or
- a registered dietitian in good standing with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
You will also need:
- Valid FOODSAFE Level 1 (Level 2 preferred)
- A clear criminal record check for working with vulnerable adults
- Proof of immunization and TB screening, including annual influenza immunization
- Verifiable work history, references, and copies of your credentials
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada
What will set you apart
- Two or more years supervising food services in long-term care, assisted living or hospital
- Hands-on experience with IDDSI texture-modified and therapeutic diets
- A record of clean health inspections, and of running a kitchen through an outbreak
- Need to do the nutrition care plan for resident
- Languages spoken by our residents - an asset
What we offer
- 37.5 hours per week, mainly weekdays with some weekend and early-morning coverage
- Extended health and dental after 3 months, 2 weeks vacation, paid sick time
- Meals on shift, paid FOODSAFE and CSNM renewal, and support for continuing education
- with free parking
