About our client: Sytek Enterprises
From medical devices and robotics to electronic musical instruments, Sytek designs and manufactures the custom electronic interfaces and printed electronics that connect people with technology. Based in North Vancouver and serving customers around the world, our small, multidisciplinary team combines engineering expertise, creative problem-solving and hands-on manufacturing. We offer the close working relationships and variety of a smaller business, alongside the reach of an international company. At Sytek, you’ll work alongside the people behind the products, get to know the business beyond your own role and see the impact of your contribution.
The opportunity
We’re looking for a hands-on General Manager who will directly handle and oversee accounting and finance, people management, and business operations.
You’ll personally carry out the work across all three areas, from preparing financial statements and coordinating payroll to onboarding employees and resolving operational issues. You’ll work closely with the local team and external advisors, reporting to corporate leadership in Germany.
This role would suit someone who enjoys the variety and ownership of working in a smaller business. You’re comfortable moving between detailed accounting work, employee questions and practical business decisions. You can see the bigger picture while getting the everyday work done.
You’ll bring practical structure, clear communication and dependable follow-through to an entrepreneurial, owner-operated environment, while meeting the wider company’s priorities and reporting expectations.
What you’ll do
Finance and accounting
- Complete day-to-day accounting, including accounts payable and receivable, banking and reconciliations.
- Prepare month-end financial statements and management reports, and coordinate year-end work with external accountants.
- Manage cash flow, prepare budgets and forecasts, and maintain appropriate financial controls.
- Coordinate payroll, complete related reconciliations and manage Canadian tax and government reporting requirements with external advice where needed.
- Track inventory, manufacturing costs and margins, and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
People and workplace
- Oversee recruitment coordination, onboarding, employee records and day-to-day HR administration.
- Oversee the administration of benefits and maintain employee documentation and workplace policies.
- Address employee questions and work with managers on performance conversations and people issues, drawing on specialist advice when needed.
- Put practical processes in place that help employees understand expectations and support a collaborative workplace.
Business operations
- Handle general business administration and resolve day-to-day operational issues.
- Work with engineering, production, sales and purchasing colleagues to address bottlenecks and keep business priorities moving.
- Manage relationships with banks, insurers, benefits providers, landlords and other service providers.
- Help implement and improve ERP processes, reporting and data accuracy, working with external implementation consultants.
- Prepare updates for corporate leadership in Germany, flag issues early and follow through on agreed actions.
What you’ll bring
- Experience personally handling accounting alongside broader business responsibilities in a small or medium-sized company.
- A strong accounting background, including the ability to manage the accounting cycle and prepare and interpret financial statements.
- Practical experience with HR matters, leadership of employees and daily business operations.
- Comfort working in an entrepreneurial environment where responsibilities overlap and priorities can change.
- Confidence using accounting software, Excel and business systems, with an interest in making processes more efficient.
- Clear communication, sound judgment and the ability to build trust with local colleagues and international leadership.
A CPA designation would be a strong asset. Experience in manufacturing, engineering, product development or a similarly technical business would also be valuable.
Your background might include a broad controller role, finance and operations management, or general management with substantial hands-on accounting responsibility. We’re interested in how you combine financial discipline with a practical, people-focused approach.
How you work
You take initiative, ask questions and follow through. You enjoy being the person who can work through a financial question, help an employee and solve a practical business problem.
You’re comfortable working alongside colleagues with different specialties and know when to seek external expertise. You can introduce useful structure while staying adaptable to the needs of a smaller, studio-like workplace.
