Job Summary:
The candidate is EP Canada's senior finance leader - strategic partner to the Canadian leadership team and primary Canadian counterpart to EP's global finance and FP&A organizations. The role delivers Canadian financial planning, analysis, and reporting capability into a global FP&A framework, and is accountable for controllership, statutory reporting, cash management, and the integrity of all Canadian accounting systems, controls, and financial information.
Working closely with the President, Canada and department leaders across Sales, Client Services, Payroll, Incentives, Operations, HR, and Technology, the candidate turns operating information into forecasts, business cases, and business narrative that shape investment, pricing, and resourcing decisions. In parallel, the role partners daily with the global FP&A team on planning, forecasting, and management reporting, and with the broader finance organization - CFO, Corporate Controller, Tax, and Treasury - to ensure Canadian results are reported accurately, forecasts are aligned to global planning cadences, and cross-border obligations are met.
The candidate adheres to the accounting policies and procedures approved by the CFO, company leadership, and Board of Directors and ensures the integrity of all accounting systems and financial information. The Candidate's duties are performed consistently with the company's mission and values, and must adhere to company policies and procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic partnership with Canadian leadership:
- Serve as strategic finance partner/advisor to the President, Canada and the Canadian leadership team, providing financial analysis, recommendations, and decision support on investment, pricing, resourcing, and other business-critical decisions.
- Partner with Canadian department leaders across Sales, Client Services, Payroll, Incentives, Operations, HR, and Technology; translate operating information into financial insight and support business cases, ROI analyses, and pricing and margin reviews for new and existing service lines.
- Serve on the EP Canada Senior Management team and other policy-making committees, representing the financial and commercial implications of business decisions.
Canadian controllership and Partnership with Global Finance:
- Acts as the senior Canadian finance leader, ensuring local results are accurately represented within EP's global reporting following all statutory rules and standards.
- Serves as the key liaison with US Tax, external auditors, and regulatory bodies (CRA, provincial ministries) on cross-border and compliance matters. (examples: T106, T1134, Part XIII withholding, and ULC-specific treatment)
- Responsible for annual audit
- Owns the full close-to-reporting cycle for Canada, from general ledger through statutory financial statements, under both Canadian and US GAAP frameworks.
- Maintains the control environment - internal controls, segregation of duties, and account reconciliations - underpinning the integrity of Canadian financial reporting.
- Partners with Finance Operations to ensure payment and transactional processes are timely, accurate, and well-controlled.
- Brings a continuous improvement lens to the close process, starting with a 90-day current state assessment and roadmap.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) - Canadian delivery:
- Serve as the Canadian finance lead, partnering with global FP&A team and working within the planning framework, calendar, and templates; personally deliver the Canadian components of the annual operating plan, quarterly reforecast, monthly variance analysis, multi-year planning, and scenario modelling.
- Own Canadian financial data quality and the Canadian forecasting rhythm across revenue, margin, headcount, capital expenditure, and cash; identify risks and opportunities against plan and surface them to Canadian leadership and global FP&A.
- Partner with the global FP&A team on management reporting, KPIs, and dashboards; ensure the Canadian view is accurate, current, and appropriately contextualized in consolidated reporting.
- Prepare and present financial updates for board packages, quarterly business reviews, annual operating plans, quarterly forecasts, and town halls.
Treasury, cash, and risk management:
- Oversee the local cash management function including maintaining Canadian banking relationships; monitor corporate cash flows, fraud detection, vendor credit risk profiles, and forecast restricted/unrestricted cash balances, and recommend foreign exchange and hedging actions in coordination with Global Treasury.
- Manage insurance coverage for the organization in coordination with US Risk Management, including compliance obligations.
Team leadership and continuous improvement:
- Lead, develop, and evaluate the Canadian finance team, including recruitment, training, and succession planning; make recommendations on salary increases and annual bonus amounts.
- Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives across finance systems, processes, and reporting to support the business's evolving needs, including ERP and reporting system enhancements.
- Set and implement short-term and long-term departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Ten years+ progressive experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position
- CPA designation required
- Experience operating in the Canadian entity of a US-parented multinational, including US GAAP consolidation and cross-border reporting into a US head office.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with executive or senior leadership on business-critical decisions, translating financial analysis into commercial and operational recommendations.
- Strong hands-on operational finance capability - management reporting and analysis, scenario modelling - with the ability to personally deliver the work, not only supervise others doing it; experience operating as the local FP&A partner within a global/head-office-led FP&A framework is strongly preferred.
- Strong financial storytelling and executive presentation skills - able to translate results and forecasts into clear business narrative that lands with both a Canadian President and the global executive team.
- Track record of out-of-the-box thinking when challenged with process improvement, re-organization, major system rehaul
- Working knowledge of Canadian tax (T2, GST/HST/PST), statutory reporting, and audit; familiarity with transfer pricing and cross-border tax obligations.
- Strong ERP and reporting systems experience.
- Executive-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders outside of Finance (written and verbal).
- Ability to lead teams to produce quality output within tight timeframes and manage multiple concurrent priorities.
- Commercial or operational business acumen beyond core accounting and finance, with comfort operating in a matrix organization.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with the film and television production ecosystem or experience adjacent to production companies, studios, or service providers.
