The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a Product Developer who loves bringing ideas to life and understands the balance between great design, functionality, and commercial success.
Reporting to the Manager, Product Development and Sourcing, you'll play a key role in bringing new furniture and home furnishing collections from initial concept through to production.
You'll work closely with internal teams and international manufacturing partners, combining your technical design expertise, product knowledge, and commercial awareness to develop beautiful, high-quality products that meet customer needs and business objectives.
We're looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, takes ownership of their work, and enjoys turning creative concepts into commercially viable products.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead new product development from concept and design through sampling, approvals, and production.
- Develop and refine CAD drawings, 3D models, technical specifications, and manufacturing packages.
- Manage product development timelines, ensuring key milestones, samples, and approvals stay on track.
- Partner with overseas manufacturers to review samples, resolve design challenges, and maintain quality standards.
- Negotiate product costs and identify value engineering opportunities to achieve competitive pricing and target margins.
- Collaborate with internal teams across Product Development, Quality Control, Sourcing, and Key Accounts.
- Identify opportunities for new products, assortment expansion, and private label development.
- Use data, market insights, and emerging technologies, including AI tools, to improve processes and support product decisions.
- Provide guidance and support to the Product Development Coordinator.
- Participate in international factory visits to strengthen supplier relationships and oversee product development, with approximately 30% travel required.
What You'll Bring
- 3 to 5+ years of product development experience in furniture, home furnishings, or a related consumer product category.
- A degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Merchandising, International Business, or a related discipline.
- Strong proficiency in CAD and 3D design software, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop, supported by a portfolio of relevant work.
- Experience creating technical packages, specification sheets, and managing product sampling with manufacturers.
- An understanding of materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes, ideally across wood, metal, stone, glass, or textiles.
- Strong commercial instincts with experience in product costing, supplier negotiations, and value engineering.
- The ability to manage multiple development projects, timelines, and competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, particularly when working with international manufacturing partners.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with an interest in using technology and AI to improve workflows.
- Strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach.
Nice to Have
Experience with furniture construction, upholstery, textiles, leathers, outdoor furniture, or private label product development would be an asset.
Don't have direct furniture experience? We're also interested in connecting with candidates who have developed products in adjacent categories, including lighting, home décor, textiles, cabinetry, millwork, and other consumer goods, and are excited to bring their expertise into the furniture industry.
