Original job description

Humans of HR is an upcoming boutique recruitment agency in Vancouver and is very quickly becoming the go-to agency for hiring and placement of skilled corporate professionals. Combined with our vast network and extraordinary customer-centric approach, we are the obvious choice in helping you find your next home.

We’re recruiting on behalf of a well-established client in the Lower Mainland, in the public sector, for a Compensation Associate to join their Human Resources team.

This is a rare chance to help shape a classification framework, not just maintain one. The organization is in a period of significant change, and you will play a key role in building out new job classifications within a unionized environment.

Key Responsibilities

Develop new job classifications and draft class specifications that align with the existing job hierarchy
Conduct job evaluations using an established point-based plan
Review and assess reclassification requests, including multi-incumbent requests, and determine eligibility
Prepare clear, well-supported rationale for any changes to pay grades
Partner with managers and HR colleagues to understand evolving roles and workflows
Maintain consistency and internal equity across a broad range of positions
Manage a high volume of files with strong attention to detail and accuracy
Work closely with the Compensation, Benefits and HRIS team on related projects
Over time, support classification work for non-union positions

What You Bring

Experience in job evaluation and classification within a unionized, public sector environment
Proven ability to write class specifications from the ground up
Working knowledge of collective agreements and how they shape classification decisions
Municipal or local government experience is a strong asset
A detail-oriented, analytical approach and comfort working within a defined framework
Strong written communication skills
Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business or a related field

What’s on Offer

A stable, permanent full-time role with a respected public sector employer
Defined benefit pension plan
Generous vacation, plus additional time off with service
Comprehensive benefits package and annual performance bonus
Option to work a compressed 4-day work week once settled into the role
The opportunity to make a lasting impact on how the organization is structured

At Humans of HR, we support the development and growth of our candidates to reach their full potential. If you are thinking about your next career move and the above role is just the right fit, please send us your resume along with a cover letter in confidence and one of our consultants will be in touch for a confidential discussion.
