Eligibility and the four-item allowance

Who is eligible for large-item pickup?

Your home must receive the city’s Garbage and Green Cart service and pay the garbage fee on its annual utility bill. Most strata properties use private collection and are not eligible. Check the bill and collection arrangement before placing a bulky item outside.

How many items can I book each year?

The dedicated program page allows four large household items per calendar year. You may book all four together or divide them across visits. The city’s general recycling page still has an older July-to-June statement; this guide follows the dedicated program’s calendar-year rule.

How do I arrange pickup?

Call Waste Connections of Canada at 604-636-3521, use the email link on the city page or submit its online request. Staff review the request and confirm the collection date. Simply entering a request is not permission to leave items out indefinitely.

Booking, set-out and preparation

What is the set-out time and location?

Put the items at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on the confirmed day, no earlier than the previous night. Keep the sidewalk and traffic route clear. Collection staff will not enter private property, so a request to remove furniture from inside a home is outside this service.

What happens if I miss the confirmed pickup?

The city says a missed scheduled collection still counts against the annual item allowance. Record the confirmed day and prepare the items in advance. Do not assume the unused-looking slot resets because the furniture was not outside when staff arrived.

Which furniture and appliances are listed as accepted?

The page lists beds and bed parts, tables, desks, shelves, wardrobes, chairs, sofas and many exercise machines. Accepted major appliances include washers, dryers, dishwashers, fridges, freezers, stoves and range hoods. An item must also meet the weight and safe-lifting restrictions.

What are the electronics rules?

Electronics were added October 6, 2025. Accepted electronics must be larger than 20 inches long, 12 inches wide and 10 inches high. The page lists many appliances and devices, including TVs, monitors and electrical musical instruments. Smaller electronics should go to United Boulevard’s recycling centre.

What materials are excluded?

It also excludes household hazardous materials. Do not hide these materials inside an accepted cabinet.

What if my item is heavy or the category wording is unclear?

There is a 70-kilogram or 150-pound maximum per item, and unsafe-to-lift items are refused. The page accepts electrical musical instruments but has a broader excluded musical-instrument entry, so confirm the exact item with Waste Connections. Alternative recycling and paid disposal routes are linked by the city.
