Street limits and clearance rules

Does a street need a sign before parking rules apply?

No. Citywide rules apply on unsigned streets. Park facing traffic with curbside wheels within 30 centimetres of the curb. Do not block sidewalks, crossings, cycle lanes, driveways or narrow travel space. Signs can add shorter limits or other restrictions.

What is the current street time limit?

A vehicle cannot remain in the same street spot for more than 48 continuous hours. After 48 hours on a block, it must leave that block for at least four hours before returning. Moving between spaces on the same block does not reset the limit.

How close may I stop to hydrants, crossings or driveways?

The current page states five metres from a hydrant, six metres on either side of a crosswalk or cycle crossing, and two metres from a driveway or boulevard crossing. It also states 15 metres from intersections. Read any stricter posted restriction before choosing a space.

Payment and the resident facility pass

When is city pay parking free?

The city says pay regulations are not in effect on Sundays or statutory holidays. Other time limits and parking restrictions still apply. This statement concerns the city-managed system, not every privately managed lot beside a station or business.

How can I pay, and what if a machine is broken?

City pay stations accept cash or credit card, with Flowbird and Parkedin app options. Use the next working pay station if one fails and report the faulty machine to Engineering and Public Works. A broken station does not itself permit unpaid parking.

What does the $30 resident parking pass cover?

The one-year pass covers parking fees at City Centre Aquatic Complex, Pinetree Community Centre and Evergreen Cultural Centre or Town Centre Park Community Centre. It does not remove time limits or cover on-street paid or restricted parking. The year runs from purchase date.

Remaining permit zones, exemptions and enforcement

What evidence is needed for that pass?

Bring proof of Coquitlam residency, vehicle registration and driver’s licence. Buy at CCAC, Pinetree or City Hall Revenue Services. Passes are non-refundable. A vehicle change with the same plate, owner and address can transfer free; a new plate requires surrendering the old pass and a transfer fee.

Are new resident-only street zones still being created?

No. The city says it stopped creating new zones in 2026 and removed some older ones. Existing zones may still require a permit. If you live in a remaining Resident Only zone, contact Engineering and Public Works at 604-927-3500 about the current arrangement.

How do accessible permits and veteran plates affect payment?

A SPARC placard removes parking fees in city lots only when using a designated accessible stall; otherwise normal fees apply. Veteran-plate vehicles park free at city-managed lots and on-street locations, but time restrictions still apply. The two exemptions are not identical.

What should I do about a ticket or towed vehicle?

Pay or dispute a bylaw notice within 14 days. For an impounded vehicle, contact Coquitlam Towing at 604-939-6474. Report parking concerns to Bylaw Services at 604-927-3580. A parking pass does not prevent towing when a vehicle blocks safety access.
