Deadline, folio numbers and grant tasks
What is the annual property-tax payment deadline?
The city states July 2 for the January-to-December tax year. The July 2, 2026 deadline has passed as of this guide’s review. Read the current issued notice for the amount and later-year deadlines, including the appropriate A, B or C payment column.
Which number do I use in online banking?
Use the eight-digit folio or roll number printed on the front of the tax notice. Choose Coquitlam and the taxes payee option. After buying or selling a property, update your saved bank payee rather than paying the folio belonging to the previous property.
Do I claim a Home Owner Grant by paying the lower amount?
No. The city’s payment checklist has separate steps: select the correct bill column, pay the amount and claim the grant if eligible. Do not assume a bank payment completes the grant application. Use the grant route linked by the city for the separate provincial task.
Card and postal payments
Can I pay online by credit card?
Yes. The city’s payment portal accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express using the folio number and access code from the notice. A 2% processing fee applies. The city does not accept tax credit-card payments by telephone.
Can I use a credit card for delinquent taxes?
No. The payment page excludes delinquent property taxes, described there as taxes unpaid from the past three years, from credit-card payments. Contact Revenue Services about the available route for the account rather than repeatedly attempting the ordinary card-payment portal.
What should I include when mailing a cheque?
Mail the cheque to City of Coquitlam, 3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7N2. Include the notice’s bottom portion and write the folio number on the cheque. Do not mail cash. The envelope must have a Canada Post postmark on or before the deadline.
Drop boxes, counter payments and records
Should I mail payment during a postal disruption?
No. The city specifically advises against mailing property-tax payment during a postal disruption. Late or lost mail is subject to penalty. Use another payment method that reaches the city within the required time and retain proof of the completed payment.
Where can I use a 24-hour drop box?
City Hall has boxes at the underground entrance off Burlington Drive and beside the Buchanan Square entrance. Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex has one at its Poirier Street main entrance. Deposit cheques only, including post-dated cheques up to the due date. Boxes are emptied daily.
What does the City Hall counter accept?
The Revenue Services counter on the main floor opens Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It accepts cash, cheque and debit. Before a large debit payment, ask your bank whether the transaction would exceed your daily limit.
How do I avoid paying the wrong property account?
Compare the tax notice’s folio against the account stored in your bank or city portal, especially after a move. Keep the receipt or confirmation. The city also links its pre-authorized property-tax prepayment plan, which is a separate arrangement rather than a correction to a misdirected payment.
